Obituary for Mary Noel

Mary Noel
Mary A. Noel 73, a third generation resident of Colchester passed away on Friday March 10, 2017 due to lung failure at UVM Medical Center with her three loving sons holding her hands. Mary was born in Colchester on March 21, 1943 the son of Carrol and Flossie Stone. By the age of 18 she had lost both her parents and at that time went to nanny for over two years for the Manchester family of Johnson VT, who through this day remain as a second family to Mary. With the money she earned she moved to Burlington and attended cosmetology school, which became a lifelong skill she used every week on her family and friends. With her education she moved to St. Albans to work where she met her husband Larry and they married on August 6, 1966. They then moved back to Colchester and built their own home themselves on her family's land where they raised their three sons. Her life was dedicated to supporting her family and community, including helping Larry with running Cub Scout Pack 655 in Colchester for over 30 years and the religious education for Our Lady of Grace church, where Larry was a member. Before having their third son, Larry was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in the mid 1980's which Mary proudly took care of him until he passed away in February of 2010. After his passing she began her 'retirement' chapter of her life. She began traveling to Florida every winter for vacation to visit close friends which included trips to Disney and even a Caribbean cruise. Mary who was a proud lifelong member of the Williston Church of the Nazarene joined the church board and also joined the Colchester Community Chorus. She was a master seamstress and best known throughout the community for her famous cakes that she beautifully decorated. She loved camping, going fishing, and just watching the sunset. Her most proud accomplishment was her three sons and their children as she will always be known as "super granny". Mary will always be remembered for being dedicated, selfless, strong, practical, and most importantly loving with a heart that has no measure.

She is survived by her three children, Marc and his two daughters Alyssa and Rachael; Shawn, his wife Kelly and their son Jack and daughter Ellie; Matthew and his wife Whitney and their soon expected son Blakely. She leaves behind a brother and his wife Bernie and Joyce Stone, sister and husband Carolyn and Art Hawkes, sister Dorothy Safford, and many loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Paul Stone.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 16, 2017 from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Christian Service will be celebrated on Friday March 17 at 10 a.m. at the Williston Church of the Nazarene in Williston. A time of fellowship and celebration will follow immediately after the service, along with interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Williston Church of the Nazarene, 30 Morgan Parkway Williston, VT 05495.
