Obituary for David Carpentier

David Carpentier
On Sunday, October 1st, 2017, David (Dave) M. Carpentier, beloved Father, Pepe, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, and Boyfriend passed away unexpectedly at the age of 61. Dave was the light, the love, and the laughter for many. He was a spirited and compassionate man who led life with love and humor.

Dave, a native of Vermont, was born in Burlington, VT to Henry and Lorraine (Barlow) Carpentier. He graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 1974 and Vermont Technical College in 1976 with a degree in engineering. Following graduation, Dave was employed at IBM & Global Foundries for 38 years.  He was a Lead Engineer & Manager in the Test organization. Dave finished his career within the Aerospace & Defense Business Unit as a Program Manager, supporting IBM and Global Foundry's Trusted Foundry program with the U.S. Government, culminating in a prestigious Division award.  Key to Dave's success throughout his career was his ability to establish strong relationships with people, relationships that continued well after his retirement in 2015.

In May 1977, Dave married the love of his life, Nancy Langlais. Dave’s love and dedication to Nancy through the years was unwavering, and the mutual bond they shared was immeasurable. Together they raised two incredible children, a son and daughter, Joshua and Kristin. Nancy predeceased Dave in 2001.

Dave had an insatiable thirst for music. If there was a show or band performing at any Vermont venue, you could be sure to see Dave there. He volunteered for both the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts and the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. He was always eager to lend a hand at any show, and he loved driving the performers around town. Dave was also a sports enthusiast; specifically, an ardent Boston Red Sox fan, who was a frequent visitor at Fenway Park.  Whether box seats or the bleachers with his buddies, he was happiest being a part of 'the crowd' cheering (or sometimes cursing) his beloved Sox. You could also find Dave at UVM’s Patrick Gymnasium supporting the UVM Men’s Basketball Team. He was a loyal fan and season ticket holder.

Dave is survived by his son, Joshua Carpentier and partner, Aubrey Bissonette of Colchester, VT; his daughter Kristin Carpentier and her partner, Lauryn DePaul of Los Angeles, CA, and his one and only grandchild and light of his life, Madison (Madi) Carpentier. He leaves his siblings and their families: Brian & Sandy Carpentier of Raymond, NH, Phil & Sharon Carpentier of Cabot, VT, Scott Carpentier of Novato, CA, John & Michael Carpentier of Novato, CA, and Maria & Rick Jackson of Milton, VT. He leaves his loving partner, Michell Langlais, and her family, Connor and Stephanie Langlais of Colchester, VT, and several family members including cousins, aunts and uncles, brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, and hundreds of devoted and loving friends.

Dave had a wonderful gift of relating with people. He was the first to lend a hand, offer advice, or just a shoulder to lean on. He genuinely enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially on the shores of Lake Champlain at Camp Sun Dog. He leaves a legacy of love, friendship, hope, laughter and good music.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6th, 2017 from 4pm-8pm at LaVigne Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Winooski, VT. Interment services are Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at 11:00am at Resurrection Park, South Burlington, VT. Memorial donations in memory of David can be made to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, 77 Sunset View Road, South Hero, VT 05486.
