Obituary for Eugenia Evans (Hathaway)
Eugenia (Hathaway) Evans was born May 6, 1928 in Taunton, MA died from complications of an aortic aneurism. She graduated from New Bedford HS with honors. In 1946, she moved to Martha's Vineyard, MA where she met her husband. Jeanne was a stubborn Yankee, a daughter of the American Revolution and a lifelong member of the Mayflower Society. She was an empathic, patient and dutiful woman. She was a bus driver, a bookkeeper for Twin State Neon, a gentle caregiver for the City of New Bedford, a librarian and a meals-on-wheels advocate. She taught us how to forgive. She loved all living things especially her garden, growing dahlias and picking mayflowers each Spring on her birthday. Her life centered around family - which meant going home to Sassaquin to swim in the pond and spend weekends up-to-camp. We will miss her very much.
She is predeceased by her husband of ~40 years, Leon Evans, and eldest son Curt Evans whom she loved with all her heart. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Evans) Fleury and partner Denis Bernier of Jericho who took care of her these past five years and the twins David Evans and partner Tammy Walters of Shelburne and Dawn (Evans-Hofer) Comtois and husband Luc Comtois of Milton. Four grandchildren: Emily Fleury, Jacqueline Fleury, Sarah Hofer and partner Liam O'Keefe, Christopher Hofer and two great grandsons: James and Cian. Sister Barbara (Hathaway) Meehan of New Bedford, MA and six nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday November 18, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St, Winooski, VT 05404. Condolences may be shared at www.lavignefuneralhome.com.
