Claudette Martineau
Winooski - Sister Claudette, of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa, after long years of illness and suffering died peacefully on December 19, 2017 in Our Lady of Providence Residence, Winooski VT.

Sister Claudette was born in Manchester New Hampshire on January 25, 1940, the daughter of Arthur and Cecile (Cote) Martineau.

She attended St John Baptist School, Villa Augustina Academy in Goffstown NH. as well as courses in St. Anslem's College, Manchester NH and Mt. St. Joseph College of R.I.

Sister entered the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa in 1961 and after initial formation was sent to England where she continued studies in preparation for her Mission work in Africa.

During her 54 years as a Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa, Sister returned several times to USA for sabbatical programs which enabled her to carry out her mission work as pastoral assistant in various parishes in Kenya, East Africa. Later in USA Sister spent 10 very happy years in chaplaincy work in a Baltimore Hospital. She was also involved in Mission animation and Vocation promotion at various times.

She was predeceased by her parents, by her religious sister Therese Martineau (Congregation of the Presentation of Mary), by her brothers Gerard and Andre Martineau and by her three priest-brothers: Albert, Donald and Maurice.

Sister is survived by her sister-in-law, Vivian, her niece, Dora Dunn, many cousins, including Rev. Roland Cote who has been a great support to her over the years. Father will preside at the Funeral Mass and Committal Service. Sister is also survived by her sisters in Religion, the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa.

We are grateful to the staff at Our Lady of Providence for their kindness during these years.

There will be a prayer service on Thursday December 28 at 7.00 pm in Our Lady of Providence chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday December 29th at Our Lady of Providence Residence, 47 West Spring Street in Winooski VT

Arrangements are in the care of LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winooski.
