Frances "Frankie" Balch (Viens)
Frances Adrienne Balch died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 2, 2018. Frankie was born on December 26, 1927 in St. Angele de Monnoire, Canada, the second youngest child of Albert Paul Viens and Blanche (Beaulieu) Viens. Her family moved to St. Albans, VT where she attended school. She was employed by Ma Bell as an operator until she met the love of her life and married, Frank Anderson Balch, on Oct. 1, 1949. In 1959 they moved to Burlington where Frank began a career at WJOY. In 1971, they acquired a majority interest in in the Company (Vermont Broadcasting Corp.) which they maintained until the business was sold in 1983. Frankie spent many years volunteering and raising their two children, Barry and Lise Ann.
She is survived by her son, Barry and his wife Tina Richer of Colchester, her daughter Lise Ann and her husband Victor Koufman of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass; by her grandchildren, Krista (and Cory) Gould, Richard and Michael Balch, Caleb, Ely and Samuel Koufman; by her great-grandchildren, Colon and Caden Descorcie, and Catherine Balch; and by her great-great-grandchildren, Connor and Calvin Descorcie. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jeanne Beaulieu, John P. Viens, Marcel Viens, Simone Montagne, Gerard Viens, Juliette Paquette, Lucille Shepard and Richard Viens, along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, 4/7/18 at 11:00 am at Resurrection Park Cemetery, 200 Hinesburg Rd., So. Burlington, VT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice Program, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446, 802-860-4475.
