Obituary for Rene Rousselle

Rene R. Rousselle (96) a proud veteran of W W II, was the husband of Yolande Rocheleau Rousselle for 63 years from her birthday in 1945 until her death in 2008.

Dad, a frugal and common sense Vermonter, built his home in Winooski 70 years ago and a motel in South Hero, the Sue-Dan Motel. Retiring from the Burlington Free Press after 38 years as a pressman and union member, they continued to operate the motel seasonally for 20 years. At this point his free time was devoted to the John Ryan Post #1767 as commander, committee member and volunteer. A daily routine was putting the flag out, walking around Winooski, occasionally stopping for one beer at the VFW and sitting on the front porch on most summer days. He enjoyed the simple things in life, gardening, taking care of his home, loving his family and his Anzio Beach Army reunions.

He will be lovingly missed by his sister, Aline Morin, sister-in-law, Lorraine Willette, his daughter, Susan Flahive and her children JoyLee (Noah) and JayDan Flahive, his daughter-in-law, Nancy Rousselle and her children, Donald Rousselle (Lisa) and their children Michael Gero (Erika), Jessica Fitzherbert (Kyle) and David Rousselle and Rosalind Sklar (Alan) and their children Rene and Sara. Also are his great-great-grandchildren Christopher and Cameron Gero and Savannah Fitzherbert. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Daniel (2004), his son-in-law, James Flahive (1994) and his brothers Leon, Gerard, Marcel, Henry and sister, Beatrice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. There will be no visiting hours.

A special acknowledgement and thank you to Eric Adu and Patience Bannerman, Dad's home caregivers for two and a half years. Arrangements are under the care of LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winooski. Condolences may be shared at www.lavignefuneralhome.com
