Obituary for Mayfred "May" McKenzie

Mayfred R. McKenzie, age 92, of Burlington, VT died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, in the Birchwood Terrace Health Care facility, surrounded by her family. From her birth to her graceful end, she nourished people around her with love, faith, and hard work. Mayfred loved many activities in her life; gardening, dance, music, garage sales, and friendships to name a few.

She was born September 1,1925 Burlington VT, to Fred J. and Mary Delia (Trombley) Cummings and was the second of four children. After graduating Cathedral High School in 1943 she moved to New Jersey and attended St. Michaels College, School of Nursing, Newark NJ. Graduating in 1947 she went on to serve her community as a Visiting Nurse.

In June of 1948 she married Donald R. Mckenzie, returning to Vermont in 1963.

She had a long and talented career as an emergency room nurse for the Bishop Degoesbriand, Mary Fletcher, and Fletcher Allen hospitals, retiring after 45 years of service.

Mayfred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Fred Cummings, Bernie Cummings and her daughter Jessica Mckenzie.

Left to honor Mayfred's memory; her two sons, Michael and (Joan) Mckenzie, Patrick and (DonnCherie) Mckenzie, grandchildren Katelyn Mckenzie, Padraic Mckenzie, Will Mckenzie, and Molly Mckenzie in addition to many in-laws, nieces, nephews, brother Roger Cummings and his wife Wanda, and great grand-child Emma Flanders.

Per her request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be held on August 9, at 11:00 AM, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the care of LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Condolences may be shared at www.lavignefuneralhome.com.

Many thanks to Dr. Eugene Moore and the staff at Birchwood Terrace Health Care.
