Obituary for Theresa Amy Norton (Manseau)

THERESA AMY NORTON ESSEX JUNCTION - Theresa Amy Norton passed away at her home on Sept. 4, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born in Colchester on Aug. 21, 1927, and was the daughter of Henry and Phedora (Audette) Manseau. She attended school at Mount St. Mary. She married Glenn R. Norton on June 30, 1947, and together they started their life in Burlington and moved to Essex Junction where they raised their family of four daughters. Theresa was employed by General Electric for 31 years, retiring in 1987. Theresa was an avid bowler and headed up the Quality Bake Shop bowling team. She enjoyed many years at the family camp on Georgia Shore. Sunsets, barbecues, fishing and family gatherings at the camp were Theresa's favorite memories and she cherished her friends and neighbors on the Georgia Shore. In 2009, Theresa began another chapter in her life as she moved from the family home on West Street to Essex Town Meadows Senior Housing. She again established wonderful friendships with her new neighbors and continued to enjoy many activities such as bus trips to casinos and Saratoga Race Track. Potluck dinners, happy hours and many other festivities were a part of her daily routine and she was always up for the next adventure. Theresa was the matriarch of a very large, extended family. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and never judged anyone. Everyone loved her and her family stayed connected through her over the years. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Theresa is survived by her four daughters, Louise Dittoe (Bud) of Whitney, Texas, Elizabeth Allen (Richard) of Scotia, N.Y., Kathleen Vaillancourt of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sue Williams (Dan) of Fletcher; six grand- children, Michael Jarrett, Karen Allen, David Allen, Abby Williams, Laura Hennessey, and Kyle Fleming; and six greatgrandchildren, Joseph and Christopher Jarrett, Jonathan Seiter, Bethany Rose Baza, Ryan Allen, and Braelyn Fleming. She also is survived by her "cousins" whom she loved dearly; and many nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children. In addition to her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Glenn R. Norton, in 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Essex Junction. Interment will follow at Resurrection Park in South Burlington. Calling hours will be on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., in Winooski. Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.lavignefuneral home.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Theresa's memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of NENY, 501 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, c/o Carol Lafleur.
