Elizabeth Cannon
Burlington - Long time Burlingtonian Elizabeth Mary Fitzpatrick Cannon died December 30th, 2017 in her home . Liz was a proud Irish Catholic born on November 28th, 1920 to Thomas and Mary (Malloy) Fitzpatrick. She was the youngest of five children.
Her faith and heritage shaped her life. She was educated within the Catholic schools of Burlington. Liz graduated from Cathedral High School in 1939. She went on to Trinity College graduating with a degree in Economics in 1943. She met her future husband Dr. Martin J. Cannon while in college. They married in September 1945 and had eleven children together. They were married for 51 years.
Liz kept busy raising her children, sewing their clothes and baking bread all the while shining that sunny disposition on everyone. Her positive outlook, love and kindness got her through everything life gave her. Her smile and beauty would light up a room. She had the grace of a different era. Her generous spirit made her a friend to many and a great example to her 11 children. 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Liz was predeceased by her husband Martin (1997), son Brian (2013) and granddaughter Lizzie (2006). She is survived by her children Kathy Boulanger of Burlington, Noelle Cannon of Plattsburgh, John and Karol Cannon of Winooski, Maureen Cannon and Robert Resnik of Burlington, Sheila and Bill Gilbert of Longmont Co., Martin Cannon of Burlington, Pat and Ann Cannon of Lathrup Village Mi. , Mary and Bill Stearns of South Burlington, Colleen and Rink Carpenter of Lake Stevens , Wa., Patty Cannon and Sheila Carlo of Burlington N.J.,and Tim and Lourdes Cannon of Somerville, Ma.
Elizabeth also leaves her sister in law Martina Dodd of Connecticut, brother in law Charles Sherlock of Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to her Sunday group nieces Mariah and Sheila Fitzpatrick and nephew Marty Fitzpatrick. She would look forward to their weekly visits and appreciated their love and support over the years.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. Winooski, Vt 05404. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 4 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1251 North Ave., Burlington, VT 05408.
