Obituary for Sergio Tognelli

Sergio Tognelli
Sergio Tognelli, age 61 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 15, 2018 after a long and brave fight with cancer. Sergio started his journey on June 7, 1957 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He came to America when he was 3 1/2 years old with his Dad, Mom and his sister and eventually they made their way to Vermont.

He was a graduate of BHS, Trinity and Champlain Colleges in Burlington, VT. He had a long career within the freight industry as a Freight Supervisor for A-P-A Transport, ABF and Old Dominion, which he was reluctantly forced to retire from due to his illness.

Sergio will be known for his quick wit, love for the outdoors, work ethic, and unbelievable charm. His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by the love for his family. He will be missed by many here and abroad.

Sergio is survived by his devoted and loving family, his wife, Anne, his two children, Anthony and Jessica, his sister, Barbara and her husband, Ron, his in-laws, Francis and Mary Cross, brother-in-law, Mark Cross and wife, Debra and brother-in-law, Shawn Cross and sister-in-law, Kathleen Poirier as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Carlo and Carmen Tognelli and his sister-in-law, Mary Baker.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main Street in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Church in Colchester. Burial will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington with a reception afterwards to be held at Holy Cross Church.

Special heartfelt thanks to the UVM Medical Center Hematology/Oncology Department, Dr. Edmund Folefac, Dr. Hibba-Tul Rehman and to all the wonderful nurses and staff that cared for Sergio as well as Dr. Jeffrey Rubman. We are truly grateful.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Patient Support Foundation at 5399 Williston Road, Suite 206, Williston, VT 05495 or the Ruffed Grouse Society at 45 McCormick Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108, Attn: Kim Swisher (please note "VT Habitat Project" on the check).
