Patricia Anne (Hammond) Schelzo passed away January 6, 2019. She was born on October 7, 1936 the daughter of Donald and Anne (Jenne) Hammond.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Philip J Schelzo, a native of the big apple, sons Joe of Manassas Virginia and Vincent of Tempe Arizona, Granddaughter Courtney and Great Grandchildren Elena and Owen, sisters Carol Tillotsen of Richford, VT and Jean Carter of Leominster, MA and countless cousins, nieces and nephews scattered far and wide-especially the Brissetts, Jessica and Mike. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Leonard, Keith and Walter Hammond

"Patty" a native Vermonter, raised on a dairy farm in northern Vermont served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1958, where when stationed in Brooklyn she met Phil Schelzo of New York City. Married in 1959 they relocated to Burlington and then Colchester, Vermont where she raised two sons. Joe who became a teacher first at Pine Ridge School then in Virginia and Vince, an Army MP and the police officer in Tempe Arizona. She possessed all the characteristics of a true Vermonter-grit, an acerbic wit, a love of nature, and belief in self-reliance. Nothing demonstrated that more than her comeback from a serious stroke in January of 1988-she fought back to live another 30 years doing almost everything she did before the stroke-albeit with one less arm and a limp. With each life touched a piece of what she was goes on…ripples in an eternal pond. God bless Pat Schelzo and God Bless America (Vermont in particular!)

Visitation will be Thursday January 10, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 3:00 PM at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St, Winooski, VT. Burial will be in the spring at Vermont National Cemetery in Randolph. Condolences may be shared at Donations in her memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project,

Uncle Phil -

So sorry to hear about Aunt Pat.
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5

Your niece - Christine
