Cecile Pearl (Brunelle) Douglas, passed on Friday, January 11, 2019, at CVPH Plattsburgh

Cecile was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Winooski, VT; one of fourteen children to Henri and Philomene Brunelle.

Dedicated to serving others, she enlisted as a WAVE in the US Naval Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman. After training at Quonset Point, Rhode Island; she served her tour of duty at the US Naval Reserve Center in Burlington, VT. She received a plaque for having performed more than 1,000 hours of charitable work for Naval Relief Services.

She was married on Aug., 8, 1952, to Robert E. Douglas at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Winooski, VT. She was variously employed throughout her life, but considered her most important role to be homemaker and mother to her five children.

Continuing her life of service, she established the "New Life Tape Ministry" and served as Tape Chairperson for the Diocese of Burlington and the Charismatic Conference at Saint Michael's College and Trinity College. She was also involved with Right to Life Conferences, Life in the Spirit Seminars, Catholic Family Fellowship, the Women's Aglow Fellowship, Vermont Cursillo and Bible Study.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Paul and Robert Douglas; three daughters Sheila Finn, Diana Goodman and Roberta Firenze; and "adopted" son James Lasaponara. She is survived by four brothers; Bobby, Donald, Raymond and David Brunelle; and one sister Jane Brunelle.

She will also be fondly remembered by many friends in the communities where she was a long term resident in Essex Junction, VT, Milton, VT and Eagle Crest Senior Housing in Williston, VT.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to University of Vermont Health Network McClure Miller Respite House.

Funeral Services will be held in the spring. Condolences may be shared at www.lavignefuneralhome.com Arrangements are under the care of LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
