Obituary

Roland Raymond Brosseau, age 83, of South Burlington (formerly from Winooski), passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Birchwood Terrace. He was born May 25, 1935 in Burlington, VT, son of Raymond and Jeanne (Mercure) Brosseau.

After high school graduation, he served four years in the United States Air Force as a radar operator during the Korean War in Cape Lisburne Alaska. He then attended Saint Michael's College, graduating in 1961. He married Gloria Hatin in 1958 and together they raised seven children. He was a social studies teacher for 30 years at Winooski High School, also spending many summers working as a security guard at General Electric. He was a proud volunteer for 15 years at the Vermont Militia Museum at Camp Johnson in Colchester. He enjoyed taking walks in the woods, picking berries, ice skating, fishing, reading, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gloria; their seven children: Monique and her husband Pete of Craftsbury, VT; Mike and his wife Tina of Rochester, NY; Carole and her husband Dave of Stowe, VT; Rob and his wife Ann of Kansas City, MO; Pat of Charlottesville, VA; Betsy and her husband Kevin of Highgate Ctr., VT; Aimee and her husband Jeremy of Fletcher, VT; 12 grandchildren (Justin, Cody, Greg, Matt, Marissa, Christie, Matt, Abbey, Ethan, Nick, Jack, and Eli) and two great-grandchildren (Sebastian and Alexander). He is also survived by his three siblings; Paul of Winooski, VT; Diane of Scottsdale, AZ; and Gerald of Sarasota, FL and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at the special care unit at Birchwood Terrace. We appreciate their genuine compassion, caring, and dedication to everyone.

Memorial contributions may be made to "Birchwood Activity Fund", 43 Starr Farm Rd., Burlington, VT 05408

Mrs. Brosseau, my heart is so sad to hear of Mr. Brosseau's passing. The love that he showed to his family and the concern he always showed to the people in our neighborhood was a model of what a loving and kind husband, friend and father is. I have so many wonderful memories of him, and I will always think of him walking by our house to school, or pushing Betsy and then Aimee in a stroller, or stopping to talk to us and being genuinely interested in what we were doing with our lives. I was always so happy to spend time with your family where I felt surrounded by love and great friendship. Mr. Brosseau was a good and faithful servant of Jesus. Your children are a testament to you both - they are some of the nicest people I have ever known. I pray that you find comfort and peace from the love of God, your family, your friends, and the prayers of all those who are thinking of you and Mr. Brosseau.

Gloria My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you.You and Roland shared a long life together with many happy memories. The last 10 years have been so very difficult as you ,as a couple ,endured the long painful journey through Alzheimer’s Disease.ROland is now beyond that journey, perhaps once again enjoying the wonderful lifetime memories that you created as a family .. I hope that you receive the peace and graces from God to continue your journey and be content knowing that Roland is now safely home .You were a wonderful and loving caregiver. You carried out your wedding vows.....in sickness and in health.."....to the very difficult years May you both feel the peace of the Lord Sincerely Gloria Mc Grail
