John P. Cavoretto, 71, of Burlington, Vermont, passed away February 25th in the early hours of the morning in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born to John E. and Pauline Cavoretto in 1948 in Burlington, Vermont. He graduated from Burlington High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree and 5th year Certificate in Education from the University of Vermont, often making the Dean’s List. He was an active member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and participated in the Army ROTC program. A veteran of the Vietnam War, John proudly enlisted and served his country as a Game Warden and then a Senior Military Policeman in Saigon. Following his honorable discharge from the army, in addition to work in the machining and manufacturing industry, John’s lifelong love of the outdoors led him to pursue a career as a horticulture and landscape design professional, and he took every opportunity to hunt and fish in his leisure time with family and friends.
John is survived by the love of his life, Coralee, their three children: James, Ann, and Thomas, their spouses, and 5 grandchildren. He touched the lives of many, including his siblings and extended family, and many close friends. His garrulous and generous nature as well as his strong sense of morals and grit were well known among his family and friends, and his seemingly tough exterior couldn’t hide his warmth and gentleness, especially with children and animals. His vivid storytelling and mischievous sense of humor was always accompanied by the signature jovial twinkle in his blue eyes and twitch of his mustache.
He will be missed, but his family and friends will keep him in their hearts, and keep his memory by sharing the many stories that defined him. Services honoring his memory will be held Saturday, March 14th, 11 AM –1 PM at Lavigne Funeral Home in Winooski, VT.
